Sin Bearer

“And thou shalt make curtains of goats' hair to be a covering upon the tabernacle.”  (Exodus 26:7).

Goat’s hair was used to make a “tent” that covered the Tabernacle.  The goats of that day were black  instead of white.  Black signifies sin and goats were used in the sin offering.  Leviticus 9:3 says, “Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering.”  Two goats were used on the Day of Atonement.  One was sacrificed for sin and the blood was placed on the mercy seat while the other, known as the scapegoat, was taken out of the camp and let go in an uninhabited area.

We can see that the goat’s hair represented the sin-bearing work of Jesus on the cross, “who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”  (1 Peter 2:24).   The work did not end there.  Like the scapegoat Christ also carried our sins away.  Can you hear the hymn of old?  “Living He loved me, dying He saved me, buried He carried my sin far away...”  What is left is the righteousness of Christ!  That is why the inner curtain went on first.  The priest, working on the inside of the Tabernacle, could not see the black curtain.  It was hidden by the inner curtains which represented the person and work of Christ.  Sin is hidden by the righteousness of Christ!  Glory!!  Another reason to feed the inner man my brothers and sisters.

Today is March 28.  Christ has carried sin away!

Blessings,

Jim
