Securing Crowns

“Thou shalt also make a table of shittim wood...And thou shalt overlay it with pure gold, and make thereto a crown of gold round about.  And thou shalt make unto it a border of an hand breadth round about, and thou shalt make a golden crown to the border thereof round about.”  (Exodus 25:23-25).

The Table of Shewbread was to made of acacia wood and overlaid with gold.  There was a border around the table that was a handbreath high; approximately 4 inches.  The purpose of this was to strengthen the table.  This border was then secured with two “crowns of gold.”  These crowns must represent the two crowns of Jesus.  The first was the crown of thorns that He bore on the cross.  The second is the crown of glory He will be wearing at His return.  Those two truths are what strengthens and secures the life of the redeemed.  As we feast on the Word, we are reminded of what Jesus has accomplished through the cross as the suffering servant.  But we are also reminded of a glorious future when He returns as the King of kings.  Yes, Jesus is coming again!

Remember this truth each time you approach the table of communion at the Lord’s Supper.  Look back and see the crown of thorns where the Suffering Servant took our sin to the cross.  Look ahead at the crown of glory when The King of kings returns to take us home.  These are the securing crowns of our faith beloved.  Our past is forgiven and our future is secure!

Today is April 29.  We are secure in Christ.

Blessings,

Jim
