Meeting with the LORD
“And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubims which are upon the ark of the testimony, of all things which I will give thee in commandment unto the children of Israel.” (Exodus 25:22)
The LORD gave the intricate details of the Tabernacle so He could meet with man. Why? It was so He could “commune...all things which I will give thee in commandment.” We meet with the LORD to “commune.” It first requires a humble spirit, because entering into the presence of the LORD is only possible because of His mercy. This is why we meet at the “mercy seat.” It must be by way of blood, none of which we can offer of our own. It is substitutionary.
Secondly, it requires a teachable spirit. “LORD teach me ‘all things’ which you command.” We cannot be interested only in that which creates personal comfort. The commands of the LORD stretch us out of our comfort zones. He is seeking to make us holy!
Thirdly, it requires an obedient spirit. Once we hear the LORD’s command, we must be prepared to obey. Obedience is the only acceptable response to His command.
Fourthly, it requires a going spirit. Others need to be aware of the commandment of the LORD. Faith comes by hearing and how will they hear unless we speak?
Today is May 23. Will you meet with the LORD?
Blessings,
Jim
